Update: On Nov. 12, Tim Scott announced in an appearance on Fox News that he was suspending his campaign.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., announced his candidacy last May. In a video where he unveiled his plans to seek the Oval Office, Scott touted the importance of his faith in his personal life: “Times were hard. Resources were scarce but the one thing we had in abundance was love. I had a powerful praying grandmother, [and] a grandfather who understood the dignity of work.”

The candidate discussed how a car accident he suffered as a senior in high school caused the derailment of his football career, while expressing gratitude that “it redirected my entire life” to “Presbyterian College, where I became a Christian.”

“It transformed the way I saw myself, the world I was living in and frankly my responsibility to make a healthy and positive contribution to the future of all of us,” he added. Scott announced that he was running for president “because I believe America can do for anyone what she has done for me.”

Scott outlined the pillars of his campaign, specifically to “restore hope, create opportunities and protect America.” He formally launched his presidential run in front of a crowd of supporters in North Charleston, South Carolina, where he spent most of his childhood.

“Victimhood or victory?” Scott asked the crowd at his campaign launch. They all chanted “victory” in unison in response to his question. He followed up by asking “grievance or greatness,” prompting the crowd to shout “greatness!” The candidate declared “I choose freedom and hope and opportunity.”

“Will you choose it with me?” he inquired of the attendees at the event. The crowd answered in the affirmative as they cheered in support of the candidate.

Scott’s campaign website plugs his “100% pro-life voting record” as documented by a 100% score from the pro-life advocacy group National Right to Life and an “A” rating from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. It includes a vow to “stand up against the radical left pushing taxpayer-funded abortion up until the moment of birth” by “fostering a culture of life, and winning the hearts and minds of Americans.”

“It’s time for new conservative leadership to bring Americans together with faith: Faith in God, faith in each other, and faith in America,” his website proclaims. “Life has intrinsic value because it comes from God.”
