Yasmin Chaudhry, 26, held her baby down in a bucket while she conducted a live video chat at 3 a.m. with her British mate. She then called the paramedics and initially told them that her baby had accidentally fallen into the bucket. The baby was unconscious when the ambulance arrived and was pronounced dead the following day.

“This has been a long investigation and she eventually admitted it to us in October 2011,” Norwegian police prosecutor Kristin Rusdel told Mail Online. The drowning occurred a year prior.

Initially, Chaudhry was arrested on suspicion of negligence due to inconsistencies she gave paramedics and police on her child’s death, but is currently facing a preliminary charge of murder.

According to Mail Online, Chaudhry told police she simply tried to discipline her daughter for waking up and “disobeying her.”

“She said it was done to discipline the child. She had been holding her under water. She had discussed the discipline with this friend, with whom she had a relationship. They met online and had met in person only once,” Rusdel added.

Chaudhry also claimed that her boyfriend, who is not her daughter’s biological father - told her to drown her baby, Mail Online reported. Chaudhry’s British boyfriend has not been named because his name does not appear in any of the published Norwegian court documents.

Oslo officers flew to the U.K. before Christmas to question Chaudhry’s boyfriend and Rusdel confirmed to Mail Online that a preliminary murder charge has also been filed against the Brit. Police are considering extradition.

“We could issue a formal request to the British authorities to see if they want to investigate the case, but because it is so closely tied to our investigation we would like to see them together,” Rusdel said, according to Mail Online.

The father of the baby, who has been living in Pakistan after he and Chaudhry split up, has been stricken with grief. “He is, of course, very shocked,” the lawyer for the infant’s father told Mail Online.

Chaudhry’s five-year-old son was taken from her and the case has been remanded until February 4.
