A Knoxville, Tenn., woman described as "emotionally unstable" by her neighbor reportedly attempted to murder her 61-year-old mother Wednesday, because she is a powerful satanist who was trying to kill her and her young daughter through curses.

The woman, Katie Nichols, who confessed to Local 8 Now on video, said she had to kill her mother because she was trying to kill her through curses.

"I had to kill her. She was going to kill both of us. She was so powerful; I had no idea, I had no idea that my mother was that powerful," Nichols told Local 8 Now.

"The satanic cult in this city has been casting satanic spells on me for three, four days. I'm exhausted. I came home and found out my mom was the ringleader and was trying to kill my daughter," she explained.

Local police said Nichols' mother was stabbed in the neck, chest and stomach. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery.

"When I left, she was still breathing. I stabbed her three times and she should have died. She was still breathing. I don't know what happened to her afterward or where they took her, but she was the antichrist; she did not die," said Nichols.

A heartbroken neighbor who did not want to be identified said Nichols is "not emotionally stable and does the best she can, but needs quite a bit of help."

She was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping for taking her daughter when she fled the scene of her mother's stabbing. She's being held in the Knox County Jail.
