15 lesser-known candidates running for president in 2024
2. Steve Laffey
Update: Steve Laffey took to X on Oct. 6 to announce that he was suspending his campaign for President and withdrawing from the Republican Party.
Steve Laffey, who served as the Republican mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island, nearly two decades ago and ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2006, is running for president as part of what he describes as an effort to “restore the ‘c’ in conservative” with a particular emphasis on “civility” and “Constitution.”
Laffey, who has since moved to Colorado, believes that “we have to commit, right now, to getting every kid out of the public schools.” He maintains that “a check needs to be sent to every family so they can learn unencumbered by onerous, abysmal, misguided education standards.”
Laffey also spearheaded a 2011 documentary titled “Fixing America,” summarized as an “extraordinary journey across the byways of America where seemingly ordinary, yet truly exceptional folks bare all and offer solutions to fix this great country.” As explained on the documentary film’s website, Laffey is a married father of six who operates a ranch in Fort Collins and attends Loveland Bible Church in Loveland, Colorado.
