'Basic safeguards' or 'baseless attack'? Activists react to 5th Circuit abortion pill ruling
Center for Reproductive Rights
The global legal advocacy group for abortion condemned the 5th Circuit’s ruling in a Friday statement, describing the pre-2016 safeguards reinstated by the ruling as “burdensome.” The Center for Reproductive Rights bemoaned that if the restrictions are allowed to take effect, then it could be harder for women to obtain abortion pills.
“This appeals court decision sets up a showdown at the Supreme Court over baseless attacks on medication abortion, which has been a lifeline since the high court reversed Roe last year,” President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights Nancy Northup stated.
“This order, if allowed to take effect, could jeopardize the FDA’s entire scientific system of drug approvals and would leave patients panicked and confused about their health and safety.”
