Barbara Walters Apologizes to Katy Perry

Barbara Walters issued Katy Perry an apology after the "Roar" singer spoke up about an awkward past exchange.

In a recent interview, Perry said that the 84-year-old journalist "shaded" her during an encounter in December of 2011.

Recalling the interview scheduled with Walters at the time, the singer admitted to being frazzled about her marriage to Russell Brand before the sit-down was scheduled to take place.

"I shouldn't have done the interview," Perry recounted, according to Billboard magazine. "I was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and I knew that the end of my marriage was coming. I was exhausted and stressed."

Although Perry let Walters know she was running late, the singer said that the journalist showed up on time anyway, and was forced to wait.

"When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, 'You know, I've only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out right,'" Perry recalled. "I was like, 'Oh snap! Yes b---h!'"

Nevertheless, Perry chalked up the Walters' jab as a compliment of sorts.

"I think it's the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me," said the singer. "I just couldn't tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, 'Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.'"

However, on Monday, Walters regretfully addressed Perry's recollections during a segment on "The View."

"Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during the time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn't know, I'm sorry," said the talk show host. "But you can't always know!"

Perry and Brand ended their 14-month marriage when they filed for a divorce on December 31, 2011.

Meanwhile, Perry's unhappiness transcended just the interview with Walters. The singer discussed the disintegration of her marriage from Brand in Billboard magazine, and even admitted to having suicidal thoughts.

The shocking revelation saw Perry describe the pain of the divorce as almost too much to bear, as depicted in the song "By the Grace of God" which is on her upcoming album, "Prism."

"That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point," said the singer, according to Billboard. "I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?' All the songs are real-life moments."

Brand and Perry were married for 14 months before their split in December 2011.

"I can only write autobiographically," Perry added of the upcoming album's tracks. "I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."

"Prism" hits stores Oct. 22.
